It's unfortunate that a modern house in pink or similar colours is next to it, as it detracts from the view. However, I've noticed that it's not uncommon for ancient monuments, gates and so on to be part of modern habitats nowadays, at least in this city.

"Remains of the round side tower of the ancient Wienertor (Viennese Gate). The fortification originally consisted of three town gates with attached round towers and drawbridges. These round towers served as a staircase to the angular gate towers and as a home to the tower guards. In 1802, the last tower guard was dismissed.""
