What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise St. Andrew's Church for its magnificent Baroque architecture and the stunning 19th-century wooden pulpit. The thoughtful inclusion of a children's play corner makes it a welcoming space for families. However, ongoing renovations can sometimes limit the full appreciation of the interior and exterior.
"April 2024 - church is a huge construction site right now and undergoes major renovation. Outside is completely under a scaffolding as major parts of the inside.
Big plus: free toilets inside the church (left side when you look in direction of the altar)"
Frau E. Schoen
"Unfortunately, there are renovation works so it is quite impossible to admire the church... however, the pulpit is visible and worth a visit if you are in the area"
Roberta Massaro
"Like all churches in Antwerp, overshadowed by the monumental cathedral, but a magnificent Baroque temple in its own right. Said to be the parish church where Rubens went to and where his children were baptized, but do not expect any of his works here.
The bulding is very well maintained, with some though provoking modem artwork scattered around. The absloute eyecatcher is the massive wooden pulpit on the right of the altar. A 19th century masterpiece of carpentry, shows a beautiful scene from the life of the church's patron, seamlessly composed around the supporting pillar.
Another highlight, that a regular church goer will appreciate is the chapel on the left of the altar is converted into a kiddy play corner, complete with a children's bibles and cooling books with Bible screens. Very thoughtful of those who run this place. A very welcoming temple and worth the visit."
