"This tour was a highlight of our trip to western Belize. William our guide and cave discoverer has a wealth of knowledge about the Mayan underworld which we explored together. Our adventure started on top of a small mountain where we met William. We descended down into a lush valley only to climb the opposite wall of the valley to about 1400 feet above sea level, where we found the cave entrance. Inside the cave we descended through the nine levels of the underworld to reach an altar with a stone relief carving of ix Chel the Mayan fertility goddess. Along the way in the cave we saw ancient Mayan pottery in the same location where it was discovered. This is like visiting a Mayan museum in it's natural setting. When we emerged from the cave we descended back to the valley floor and followed the old path out to William's family home. We also combined this trip with a fun pontoon boat ride and swim in the lake formed by the hydro electric dam. This was a wonderful full day adventure."
