Paraty-Mirim foi no passado um porto de desembarque clandestino de escravos, que eram levados para as fazendas de café do Vale do Paraíba. Algumas ruínas ainda resistem ao redor da vila, porém sem conservação adequada, sendo tomadas pela vegetação.
