"A ilha do Cajú está localizada entre o Maranhão e o Piauí, fica a 50 Quilômetros de Parnaíba no Maranhão e é um verdadeiro paraíso ecológico no Delta do Parnaíba, é muito bonita e é ideal para quem quer relaxar e fugir do estresse dos grandes centros urbanos, seu clima quente e úmido, tem duas estações bem definidas, a chuvosa e a seca, sendo que a temperatura média na região é de 27°C.
A região é formada por dunas, mangues e ilhas fluviais e ali se encontram cinco ecossistemas na região, mangues, dunas, matas, campos e alagados de água salgada.
A história da ilha também tem um forte vínculo com a cultura indígena, especialmente com os índios Tremembés, pois eles foram uma das primeiras culturas a habitar a região, deixando um legado que ainda ressoa por lá, no local, o turista ou visitante vai encontrar praias selvagens, piscinas naturais e muita vegetação, tudo em um só lugar, pois desde 1847, a ilha tem sido mantida quase intocada, com seus proprietários sempre zelando pela preservação do ecossistema local e por muitos anos, foi um lugar pouco explorado, o que ajudou a manter sua biodiversidade intacta.

Atualmente a ilha pertence ao casal de kitesurfistas, donos do Casana Hotel de Fortaleza e eles tem planos grandiosos para o lugar, pois a ideia é transformar a ilha, com a instalação de um mega resort de luxo.
