What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Forte das Cinco Pontas for its historical significance and free admission, highlighting the fort's ramparts and the detailed model of Dutch-era Recife as major draws. While the museum exhibits are informative, some find them basic. The friendly, English-speaking staff and the fort's well-maintained condition are consistently appreciated, making it a worthwhile visit for history buffs and casual explorers alike.
"Cool fort with small museum about the history of the city. The museum is just one room - mostly maps showing the development of the city over time. Informative but pretty basic. All in both Portuguese and English. You can walk all around the ramparts of the fort, with many English, Dutch and Swedish cannons (in very bad condition). There's a wonderful model of recife as it during Dutch rule. There's also two temporary galleries (local art) and a theater. Worth a visit really just for the fort. Entry is free."

"The museum contains just two table displays of some ancient artifacts (clay smoking pipes), and that's it. The rest is an exhibition of photos and panorams in just one big room. If you're short of original materials, in a good museum you'd make reconstructions - e.g. of a living room of old times, of a working room, of the fort commander, of soldiers' barracks. But the fort is empty, with just old cannons. The state of museums in very sad. New glossy materials and cleanness compensate, but only so far. The photos as postcards that were sold, turned out that I already saw on google image search. When visiting museums, I want to see the history and get a feeling of life happening there in modern and in old times. This museum barely gives any of this feeling."
