What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
While the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue itself garners universal praise, the Paineiras Visitor Center experience receives mixed reviews. Visitors appreciate the helpfulness of some staff and the convenience of the gift shop and cafe, but many point to a lack of organization, poor signage, and cleanliness issues within the center. The aggressive tactics of some local motorcycle drivers also detract from the experience for some.
"This isn’t a review of the statue, which is probably why it gets good reviews, it’s a review of the visitor centre, which makes the high rating pretty laughable.
There is no direction, no organisation, no clarity as to what to do and where to go, the toilets are disgusting, and the biodiversity exhibition is a joke.
By all means you should go to the shop if you want a souvenir, but otherwise pass through as quickly as possible and try to find someone who will tell you what to do and where to go, because the signage is almost non-existent, you’re supposed to just know, I suppose.
For what it’s worth, you can see from the photo how far from the statue the visitor centre is, and after you queue to buy your ticket you have to find the next queue for the van to drive you to the top."

"Very kind workers and employees! They do their best to make you feel confortable! Many employees speak English and can make sure you feel welcomed! Lots of gifts you can buy! Reasonable prices. You can get off the metro Largo do Machado (6.3 reals) then on the side you will see a bus stop that drops you to the location where you can either 1. Take the train up (aprox 150), 2. Take a private bus (aprox 75) or 3. Take a moto taxi or uber (I took moto bike for 15 reals). I don't know if option 2 includes the van that brings you to the Christ statue. Once you arrive at this location, you have 2 options 1. Walk it or 2. Pay 55 reals for 2 way. I chose the second option but the first option looks like medium to high difficulty! You must choose a day with not many clouds or else you won't take amazing city pics as you are very high in the clouds."

"Be aware of motorcycle guys!
You can drive up and park here to take van or train up to statue. The motorcycle guy wanted to charge us R$ 100 only to park on the road plus his shuttles service. I told him we’d walk and he followed me yelling at me. When I refused to pay him R$ 100 for parking he started to threaten me.
I then went to staff in Uniform and they said that there is no need to pay to park on the road and we don’t need to use the motorcycle shuttle service. Don’t get scammed by these “motoqueiros atrevidos”."
