What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Burnaby Art Gallery for its intimate, community-focused atmosphere within a charming heritage house. It's appreciated for showcasing local talent, especially children's art, and its connection to the beautiful Deer Lake Park. While some note its smaller size compared to major museums, its warmth, accessibility (donation-based entry), and dedicated staff make it a beloved local gem.
"A lovely little gallery nearby the Deee Lake. The exhibition areas are smaller than expected with the beautiful building outlook. Don't miss out the 2nd floor"

"The Burnaby Art Gallery isn’t quite like the grand museums one might find in the centre of a big city. It doesn’t try to be. Instead, it offers something more intimate and more connected to everyday life here in Burnaby. Rather than distant masterpieces behind glass, it’s a place where local creativity is nurtured, especially among children. You get the sense it belongs to the community, and perhaps even more touchingly, that it cares for it.
I first stepped through its doors on a school field trip with my child. I must say, I was instantly charmed by the setting: a beautiful old heritage house full of warmth and light. Most of the artwork was by school children, but don’t let that fool you. Their pieces had such sincerity and spark that they left quite an impression. It’s that rare feeling—art that feels close to home, both literally and emotionally.
The staff and volunteers were simply marvellous. Their enthusiasm was infectious. They had such a lovely way of drawing the children, and us parents too, into the stories behind each piece. It wasn’t just informative; it was heartfelt.
Just across the path is an old barn, now turned into a fully equipped workshop. It’s a splendid little space where members of the community can roll up their sleeves and create. You can tell it’s well loved and well used.
While the gallery itself isn’t especially large, I never think of it on its own. It’s part of a wider cultural pocket that includes the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Village Museum, and of course, the beautiful Deer Lake Park. Together, they form what feels like the heart of Burnaby: a place where art, nature, and local history all come together quietly and gracefully."

"Wow, sure they have some pounding hammers and workers making some noise, during the rehab, but inside is worth the visit, and soon the construction sounds sync with epiphanies as the amazing collections are witnessed. Warhol in Burnaby? Yes, and so much more in this lovingly preserved Burnaby historical home. Stained glass and everywhere you look, more details to take in. No one was there when I went, so I turned it into a Billionaire private viewing. That's right folks, I'm actually a Trillionaire but claim Billionaire to stay humble."
