Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Canyon Ski Resort for its fun summer attractions, especially the thrilling Alpine Coaster, and its enjoyable winter skiing conditions suitable for all levels. The staff are often noted as being supportive and cheerful, enhancing the overall experience. Some minor drawbacks include potential long wait times for the coaster during peak periods and the need for specific camera equipment for ride recordings.

"We visited this place in the summer to try the coaster. Even though tickets have a set time, be prepared to wait in line (we waited about an hour), it’s really popular. But it was worth it! Super fun and exciting.

Our son loved the bungee trampoline and went down the tube slide with his dad. It’s best to buy tickets at the kiosk in advance. The trampoline is $12 for 10 minutes (and trust me, that’s more than enough 😅). The tube slide is $5 per person per ride, but they also offer package deals - the more rides you buy, the cheaper it gets.

There’s also a zipline (we didn’t try it, but it looked cool) plus an awesome net park and aerial park. Just keep in mind it’s for kids 8+ and adults.

Overall, it’s a great place to spend the day with family. Bring water and snacks, or if you don’t want to carry everything, there’s a small restaurant on-site where you can grab lunch, coffee, and ice cream."

"We came to do the Canyon Coaster and it was definitely a great experience. We went on a Thursday shortly after noon and there were some people there, but we didn't have to wait in line long.

The coaster ride was exciting. It has some steep drops and sharp turns so it feels like a roller coaster. I wanted to experience it with maximum speed (except for parts that told you to brake), so I didn't pay much attention to the scenery. If I come back next time, maybe I'll go a little slower and enjoy the moment. If you go max speed, the ride probably lasts around 2 minutes.

The workers will space out riders so that there isn't a "traffic jam". If you want to record your experience you'll need a go pro or something attached to your body (you can't use your phone). After the coaster ride ends, there's a conveyer that will pull you back up the hill to the beginning.

If it is a busy weekend you should buy tickets in advance, but we checked online before we went and it was not even close to being full, so we just waited to purchase tickets on site."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Thrill of the Canyon Alpine Coaster

Alberta's first and only alpine coaster, the Canyon Coaster, is a major summer draw. Riders board a two-person cart that ascends the mountain via a cable lift, then descends on a track with thrilling twists, turns, and steep drops. Many visitors describe the ride as being like a roller coaster, offering an exhilarating experience. InstagramReddit

To ensure rider safety and prevent traffic jams on the track, the resort spaces out the carts. While the temptation is to go full speed, some riders suggest taking it a bit slower on a return trip to better appreciate the surrounding scenery. For those wanting to capture their ride, a GoPro or similar body-mounted camera is essential, as phones are not permitted. Reddit

While the coaster is incredibly popular, especially on weekends, reviews suggest that visiting on a weekday or shortly after opening can lead to shorter wait times. The ride itself typically lasts around two minutes when ridden at maximum speed. Reddit

Winter Wonderland: Skiing and Snowboarding

During the winter months, Canyon Ski Resort transforms into a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The resort is described as a 'decent ski hill' with conditions often being perfect for a day on the slopes, including light dustings of snow. InstagramReddit

The resort caters to a range of skill levels, from first-time skiers and snowboarders taking their initial steps on the snow to seasoned pros looking to shred the mountain. This makes it an excellent spot for families or groups with mixed abilities. Instagram

For those considering a season pass, Reddit users advise keeping an eye out for promotional offers that often end before the season begins. This can be a cost-effective option for frequent visitors looking to maximize their time on the mountain. Reddit

Beyond the Coaster: Summer Adventure Park

Canyon Ski Resort isn't just about the alpine coaster during the summer. The resort boasts a variety of other exciting activities that make for a full day of family fun. These include a zip line, a tube slide, a net park, and an aerial park, offering something for everyone. Reddit

The tube slide is a hit with kids and adults alike, with package deals available to make multiple rides more affordable. The bungee trampoline is another popular attraction, providing plenty of airtime for a short, energetic burst. Reddit

It's worth noting that some attractions, like the aerial park, have age restrictions (8+ for kids and adults), so it's good to check these details beforehand. The resort also has a restaurant for convenient dining options, though bringing your own snacks and water is also a practical tip. Reddit
