Coastal Charm, Not Traditional Park

McCormacks Beach Provincial Park is more of a coastal strip with rocky shores and tidal flats than a typical park. Expect wooden boardwalks and grassy areas perfect for scenic walks, not playgrounds. It's ideal for enjoying the ocean's edge and unique tidal features.

Tidal Treasures & Painted Rocks

Low tide reveals sandy flats perfect for strolling and discovering smooth rocks. Many visitors enjoy painting and leaving colorful rocks along the paths, adding a unique artistic touch to the natural landscape. Be mindful of shellfish warnings if you plan to forage.

Parks with covered picnic areas within 10 km of downtown Halifax or Dartmouth

Hello! I am looking for any parks with covered picnic areas that are easily accessible to those without cars. Ideally not a gazebo but an actual picnic area like the one pictured.

Looking to go to a beach this weekend, hoping the ocean. I'm sure there are lots of lakes but are there any ocean beaches you can bus to? Not on the Halifax side or around the harbor preferably.

Reviews Summary

Visitors find McCormacks Beach Provincial Park a pleasant coastal strip with scenic boardwalks and interesting tidal flats, perfect for walks and enjoying sunsets. The painted rock art adds a unique, charming touch. While not a traditional park and rocky for swimming, its free parking and proximity to Fisherman's Cove make it a relaxing destination.

"This is not a park in the usual sense. Rather, a strip of coast with rocks and interesting tides, a big area of tall grass and several comfortable wooden paths from one end to the other. The place is pleasant for a walk, but if you are looking for a park - this is not the place for you. And here you can find a lot of interesting smooth rocks :)"

Alexandr Orlov

"A calm protected beach close to the touristy Fishermans Cove. Nice sandy flats for strolling along the shore line at low tide. There's a wooden boardwalk to get you down to the water. Also noticed a lovely little painted rock display along the sandy paths. People are invited to leave a rock along the various paths, and apparently many people have done so. The colourful paths extend quite a way."

Ron Lynch

"cute small beach, with boardwalk. great view of the city from the beach. people were fishing and digging for shellfish here, despite there being a warning sign from the federal government that the shellfish is toxic!"
