Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Woodside National Historic Site for its peaceful park grounds, historical significance as Mackenzie King's boyhood home, and the charming red chairs. While the house has limited seasonal access, the year-round park offers beautiful trails and picnic spots. Some reviews note the pond/fountain needs maintenance and wish for longer operating hours for the house.

"Woodside Park in Kitchener is one of the city’s most peaceful and beautiful green spaces, perfect for a relaxing day outdoors. Located near downtown, it’s a large park filled with tall trees, open lawns, and walking trails that make it a great escape from the busy city life. The park is especially popular with families, joggers, and people who enjoy picnics or quiet nature walks.

One of the highlights of Woodside Park is its connection to the historic Woodside National Historic Site, the childhood home of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada’s longest-serving Prime Minister. The area is well maintained, with benches, shaded areas, and lots of greenery that changes beautifully with the seasons—from bright blossoms in spring to colorful leaves in fall.

It’s a great place for photography, light exercise, or just sitting back and enjoying the fresh air. The park also attracts wildlife like birds and squirrels, adding to its calm and natural charm. Whether you’re looking for a spot to read, take a stroll, or spend quality time with friends, Woodside Park offers a perfect blend of history, nature, and tranquility right in the heart of Kitchener."

"This is an excellent place to walk or bring a lunch! The building and grounds near it are very well kept. The farther areas near the train tracks are sometimes forgotten about, but the tall grass is good for the bunnies and fireflies. Love this place. BUT please do something about that pond. It's getting so rough, I had a frog jump out with a leather jacket and a switch blade and ask for my phone."

Samuel Isfanescu

"A hidden gem in Kitchener. The historical house is only open October-December but the grounds are open year round. There's a covered patio area with lots of tables and seating as well as a large nicely groomed lawn/ perfect for gatherings with friends and family. Surrounding the area is a beautiful old-growth area with well maintained foot paths and an old train track. We saw lots of blue Jays!"
