Unfortunately, provincial camp sites book up very early. You can try some private campgrounds.
Driving to Stave Lake
Hey neighbours! I was wondering what the drive is like up the forestry road on this lake (to get to the campsites). My van sits pretty low and isn't 4 wheel drive. Would I still make it if I drive slow?

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kearsley Creek Recreation Site is praised for its beautiful, warm lake perfect for water activities and its peaceful, natural setting. However, visitors note that the campsite's maintenance, particularly the washrooms and litter, could be improved. The bumpy access road is also a common point of discussion.
"Camping at Kearsley Creek was such a fun experience, especially since it fell on my birthday weekend. The washrooms are basic pit toilets, so we kept things rustic, and for showers we just dipped into the lake—which honestly added to the adventure. The campground was mostly quiet and peaceful, though you could faintly hear music coming from the other side of the lake. There’s no coverage at the site, but surprisingly, when we were out boating in the middle of the lake, we actually got signal! During the day we explored on the water, and at night we laid back to watch the stars, even catching a few shooting stars. It was the perfect mix of simple, outdoorsy fun and a memorable way to celebrate."

"We camped here this past weekend with our family. The lake is beautiful, it seems to be over crowded though, the amount of campsites to beach access when the water level is high. The road in was bumpy in some places but on the way out it appeared to be much better. I understand that it is pack in pack out but the surrounding woods has litter and even toilet paper all in it. I understand that it would be slightly difficult to have a garbage pick up company come in to pick up garbage but maybe having a centralized garbage and compost would prevent the littering and upkeep of the outhouses May prevent unwanted use of forest as a toilet.
Other campsites were pretty respectful with the noise during quiet time. It was super difficult for us to keep the kids quiet until 8am as the birds, sun and heat made that difficult.
The beaches were over crowded as the water was high and it was hard to get a spot on the beach. Many people left all their gear set up on the beach to save their spots but sometimes didn’t come down until the afternoon which was unfortunate as their were lots of others and families trying to squeeze in where ever.
There was music going across the lake until 4am, and you could hear it but it wasn’t that bad.
They have mission Forrest and mission fire driving around checking on things but we only seen the host at check in.
A group of water craft users were very rude and come up right beside paddle users and kayaks on purpose creating big waves and knocking some off.
Overall it is a beautiful place, they charge $18 for an additional car and $10 for a day use vehicle in the parking lot"

"Stave Lake is absolutely beautiful: its shallow, warm waters and meandering, marshy canals are perfect for paddling and there are several sandy beaches to spend time on. The campground has quite a few campsites, with good access to the lake... but then there is the 1-star (or less?) maintenance. Where to begin?
(1) Hosts keep "advertising" no-toilet-in-the-washroom policy due to Covid. Since this is the ONLY Lower Mainland campground where this is happening, it is obviously based on no actual regulation.
(2) Checked in on a Sunday, site had not be cleaned at all.
(3) Overgrown vegetation in the site impeding access around the table?!
(4) No sign of washroom cleaning until Monday night. Left on Thursday evening - no other cleaning session since Monday.
(5) Absolutely no measure used to reduce toilet odors, this is the worst-smelling campground we've ever stayed at and we camp regularly each summer.
I have been postponing this review because this is truly one of the best positioned campgrounds in L. Mainland and it is a pity that maintenance does not match the natural beauty."
