What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the thrilling aerial displays of the Snowbirds, calling them physics-defying and mesmerizing. However, many note significant drawbacks at airshows, including extremely long lines for food and restrooms, a lack of shade, and a perceived lack of continuous action. The pool facilities at the base are highlighted as a positive, affordable amenity.
"We saw your metal ring just sitting there in the sky. Defying our current laws of physics. Interdimensional? How else could a metal ring just sit there as if stuck in the sky? Which hangar is it in? 👀"

"Airshow was mostly boring. Very few planes, almost no shade and 1h bathroom line ups. I remember Minot airshows in the 80s that had planes one after the other like a drag race waiting to take off.
If you like waiting boredom and ruining your skin and bladder great place to go.
Best part was free. The airshow at the 2018 car show last year was action packed.
Oh if your hungry how about over 1 hour wait at every food vendor.
Do not hydrate yourself as will have to go the the afermentioned 3 toilet 1 hour lineup.."

"They have the cutest pool! If you’re not a member it’s only $3 to use the pool for the day which is a super great deal compared to the normal $7 or $8 you’d spend at a regular city pool. The locker rooms are always clean and the gymnasium is quite large while it offers so many programs to the military members and regular patrons!"

Shade is very limited at airshow venues. It's essential to bring your own shade, such as umbrellas or pop-up tents, and wear sun protection.
Bring sunscreen, hats, comfortable shoes, water bottles (check venue policy on refills), and potentially binoculars for a closer view of the aircraft.
Yes, airshows offer fantastic photography opportunities. The Snowbirds' dynamic maneuvers provide excellent subjects. Consider bringing a camera with a good zoom lens.

The 'golden hours' around sunrise and sunset can provide beautiful lighting. Midday sun can be harsh, but the bright skies often complement the vibrant colors of the aircraft.
The 'metal ring' effect is often achieved through specific flight formations and camera angles, sometimes enhanced with post-processing. It's a signature maneuver that requires precise timing to capture.

Experiencing the Snowbirds: Tips from Visitors
To combat the crowds and potential discomfort, practical advice includes arriving early, staying hydrated, and being prepared for limited shade. Many recommend bringing personal shade structures like umbrellas or pop-up tents. While the airshow itself is the main draw, some reviews suggest that the overall event can feel 'boring' if not managed well, especially if expecting constant action like historical airshows.
For those interested in the Snowbirds beyond a live performance, the Western Development Museum in Moose Jaw features a dedicated gallery.
