What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Departure Bay Beach is a beloved local spot, praised for its sandy shores and nostalgic charm, reminiscent of childhood visits. However, some visitors note that the facilities, including restrooms, are dated, and express concerns about traffic speed near the beach. Despite these drawbacks, its accessibility and community spirit, especially with dog-friendly policies and cleanup events, make it a cherished destination.
"My Go to Beach when Im in Nanaimo. Dolly loves it to. Better down the other end if facing beach to the left. Dogs off leash after Sept."
Britishdeb
"Just another beach to me. Dreaded sun and not alot of shade. Water everywhere. But my wife loves it so I guess it's a good beach."
Wil Sho
"Beautiful. But rocky, akways lots of cigerrette butts in the sand and garbage. The 'KIN HUTT' AND BATHROOMS ARE FROM 1958 AND ATE CREEPY AND GROSS. Playground needs more equipment for kids. And maybe SLOW DOWN THE CARS ZOOMING BY AT 70+kms an hour, just feet from where toddlers, and young children play. THIS ENTIRE WATER FRONT NEEDS A MAJOR OVERHAUL!"
