What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Northwinds Beach's crystal-clear, warm waters and expansive sandy shores, making it ideal for swimming and family fun. While parking costs and limited concessions are noted drawbacks, the beach's scenic beauty and peaceful atmosphere are consistently praised, making it a worthwhile stop along Georgian Bay.
"Northwinds Beach features crystal-clear water and is somewhat secluded. It's a lovely little beach that offers amazing views of Georgian Bay. With its limited access, it's a perfect spot to take a break on the highway, ideal for a picnic and a leisurely walk by the water. The beach is all sand, free of seaweed, with open waters—just a stunning place to swim and enjoy a meal outdoors. I really had a great time during my brief but unforgettable visit."

"A wonderful, scenic Georgian Bay beach, water surprisingly warm, and both sand and a long deep grassy verge on which to set up. Minutes from Blue Mountain Village. There’s not much in the way of concessions, though we did have an ice cream truck pull in (woohoo!), though there are clean washrooms. A long sandy shallow slope (with some minor, smoothed out rocks), and big sandy area make for hours of fun for the kids. Parking can be a little tight, though the turnover is fairly quick - so if you can’t find a spot, just give it a few minutes - and the parking is not cheap! $10/hr as of August 2022. The location and quality of the beach make it well worth the cost, though. Excellent all around."

"Clear waters, the beach patrol is doing her job. Kudos to her. Tents are not allowed on the beach. Such a nice place to bring your kiddos. I have given it 5 stars originally, however, i was reminded on the parking fee. $10/hr is too expensive."

Navigating Parking and Costs
To make the parking cost more palatable, consider maximizing your time at the beach. Packing a picnic lunch and snacks means you won't need to leave for food, allowing you to fully enjoy the amenities and the beautiful Georgian Bay. For those on a tighter budget, visiting on a weekday or during the shoulder seasons (spring or fall) might offer a less crowded and potentially less expensive parking experience, though the water may be too cold for swimming.
Key takeaway: While parking is a concern, the beach's quality often makes the cost worthwhile for many. Planning your visit strategically and being prepared with food can enhance the overall experience and mitigate the impact of parking fees.
The Allure of Georgian Bay Waters
The beach's sandy composition, free from excessive seaweed, further enhances the swimming experience. Visitors often remark on the pleasant feel of the sand underfoot and the clean water. Even on windy days, when the north winds can create impressive waves, the water remains a focal point for its beauty and accessibility. The combination of calm, clear waters and a gentle entry makes Northwinds Beach a standout destination for those seeking a refreshing dip in Georgian Bay.
Pro Tip: While the water is generally warm, it's always a good idea to bring a light jacket or cover-up, as the 'Northwinds' can make the air feel cooler, especially after a swim.
Photography Opportunities at Northwinds Beach
Beyond the sunsets, the clear, calm waters of Georgian Bay provide excellent opportunities for capturing reflections and the subtle textures of the waves. The expansive sandy beach itself is a great subject, especially when dotted with beachgoers enjoying the day. For those who enjoy capturing dynamic scenes, the windy conditions that give the beach its name can lead to dramatic shots of waves and spray.
Recommended Gear: A wide-angle lens is ideal for capturing the sweeping panoramas of the bay and beach. Consider bringing a polarizing filter to enhance the colors of the water and sky and reduce glare. For low-light conditions during sunrise or sunset, a tripod will be essential for sharp, stable shots.
