Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Pocahontas Mine Site for its clean, well-maintained facilities, including flush toilets and hot water, and the convenient provision of free firewood. The historical hiking trails offer a unique exploration opportunity, and wildlife sightings add to the wilderness experience. However, the extreme popularity means booking years in advance is often necessary, and some campers express a desire for a generator ban.

"This place is a revolving door. I pulled in for a week seeking quiet, but I had new neighbors twice a day. Still an amazing facility with flush toilets, hot water on demand, and stacks of firewood.

I recommend doing the hike past punch bowl to the lookout and through the old mining village. Was cool to see the mine shaft (including rats), old foundations and yes, some bear scat. (So wear your bells!)"

"We had a wonderful time camping here in June, thankfully the grounds weren’t affected by the fire and everything was just the way we’ve always remembered it to be.
The washrooms were very clean with warm running water, there’s even a clean drinking water faucet to fill jugs and bottles from. Overall it was a beautiful and positive experience camping here and I’m excited for more trips over the years! Attached is a photo of a cute mama Black Bear and her cub that we saw on the drive towards the hot springs"

"Friendly staff, and I finally got to stay here after 5 years of trying — always seemed to be either too early or too late in the season.

The campground itself is nice, but honestly, I can’t wait for the ban on generators to come through. If you don’t want to invest in solar, and you can’t camp without running a generator, maybe just stay home instead of bothering everyone else.

I’ve been camping for 5 years with solar, family of four, and never had a single issue. It’s completely doable, and it makes the experience so much better for everyone around you."
