What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Wainfleet Bog offers a unique, natural experience with potential for wildlife sightings like monarch butterflies and leopard frogs. However, visitors should be prepared for challenging, overgrown, and often wet trails, with minimal maintenance and abundant insects. The area holds historical intrigue with remnants of old infrastructure and a mysterious abandoned building.
"Went today (Sept 4) and the trails are so much better maintained than other reviews - the grass was cut nicely, the trail seemed much wider, and there was no overgrowth spilling into the trail! I went there just out of curiosity so I didn’t wear proper boots - so I was eventually stopped by an uncrossable wet section. But it was really neat and peaceful in there. I had to watch my step for so many leopard frogs that dotted the path! It was cool seeing remnants of an old bridge/cart railway."

"A quiet place, but not much of a hiking spot. The main walking path was clear, but the trails were overgrown and difficult to follow. There are many fallen trees, spiky bushes and burrs. There are no views, and I could not locate the boardwalk indicated on the sign at the main parking lot, so that may have been absorbed by the bog. Don't bother coming here unless you're on a mission to visit every conservation area, or you are a bug repellent reviewer."
Steve Bull
"Completely over grown “trail” basically a trek in an overgrown bush. Did not see any boardwalk, nothing is maintained, super buggy. The trail markers consist of ties on a tree, do not recommend for anyone unless you are fully covered, doused in bug spray and like going into a back bush."
