What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Îlot des Palais for its insightful exhibits and the passion of its staff, offering a compelling glimpse into Quebec's colonial past and early industries. While some find the displays compact, the historical depth and the engaging video presentation make it a highly recommended stop for understanding the city's foundations.
"The museum offers an excellent insight into changes to colonial life during the French and British occupations, and later commercial and social life in the lower Old City. The best finds from an archaeological excavation, situated on the same site of the museum, reveal the good and bad, especially the hardships of earlier colonial times and a later brewery tradition. Many items are on display, with good explanations in French and English captions. From these, an interesting insight into social life is explained, down to recent decades. You may get a short introduction to the museum by keen staff if time allows, but certainly make sure you ask to see the outstanding video show!!"

"A succinct and informative archeological site and exhibits. Easily bought my ticket on site and was verbally introduced to the site and it’s history. The guy working answered allll of my questions, and he even participated in some of the excavation effort so offered extra insight!
The exhibits were small but held enough info to tell the interesting story of the place and some unique artifact for support. I’d say ~45 minutes unless you’re just going for a peek. Very nice, check it out!"
