What’s going on

Hello Terrace family! I’m planning a trip to your fine city August 26th for a week or so. Anything going on that I should check out? Music, events, must see hidden hikes etc.

Road trip along Highway 16 to Prince Rupert, then over to Haida Gwaii - suggestions please!!

I’d spend a night in Smithers and then terrace rather than 4-5 days in Rupert

💧 Shower Facilities

Showers are available, but water temperature can vary, especially later in the day. 🚿

💰 Firewood Cost

Firewood bundles are available for purchase but can be pricey, lasting about one campfire. 🔥

"Ferry Island Municipal Campground is a great mix of convenience and nature. It’s just a few minutes from downtown Terrace, but once you’re on the island it feels tucked away. The sites are spacious and shaded, with both serviced and non-serviced options. The trail around the island is a highlight—easy walking, with neat tree carvings hidden along the way that make it fun to explore. Being right on the Skeena River, you also get some beautiful views and a calm atmosphere. Facilities are basic but well-kept, and the campground has a friendly, community feel. "Okay, even though I didn't actually pitch my tent there, I recently took a walk around Fairy Island Campground, and let me tell you, this place absolutely deserves a five-star review. It looks like a truly wonderful place to camp!

What immediately struck me was how much it felt like a complete escape. You honestly wouldn't be able to tell that you're on an island in the middle of the city. It gives you the full-on nature effect, which is incredible for how accessible it is.

The campground itself looks fantastic. There were plenty of spaces available when I was there, and it seemed like campers were mostly concentrated on the south end, which tells me the rest of the island offers even more solitude. The sites themselves appear very spacious and private, giving you that true wilderness feel without being miles from amenities. And the sound of the raging river beside it just adds to that immersive natural ambiance.

If you're looking for a camping spot that combines convenience with a genuine, wild feel, Fairy Island looks like the absolute perfect choice."
