We have a trip to Victoria coming up and we’ve never been so looking at different options to get there. Seems like I could (from LA): 1) fly directly there via connection in Vancouver. 2) fly to Vancouver. Rent a car. Pay for a ferry over to Victoria. 3) fly to…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Victoria Harbour Ferry for its intimate, charming experience and the engaging local guides. The small boats offer unique close-up views of the harbour, and the efficient, friendly service with reasonable, non-mandatory tipping is a major draw. It's a highly recommended alternative to traditional transport.
"The Victoria Harbour Ferry Tour is such a fun and relaxing way to see the city from the water. The small boats give you a close-up view of the harbour, floating homes, marinas, and landmarks, all while the guides share interesting history and stories about Victoria.
It’s not just scenic but also very charming — the little ferries feel intimate compared to big tour boats, and you really get a sense of the harbour’s character. Kids especially love the ride, and the famous “water ballet” shows with the ferries are a delightful bonus if you catch them."

Took a water taxi with Victoria Harbour Ferry on two occasions, and both experiences were fantastic overall. On the first ride, from the time I called dispatch to the boat arriving was only about 3 minutes—super fast! The driver mentioned it was good timing, but I was still impressed.
Dispatch was friendly, easy to understand, and even helped me find the exact spot to wait over the phone—big thanks for that! The price was very reasonable at $15 per person, and I loved that they didn’t ask for a tip. In today’s tipping-everywhere culture, it felt refreshing that tipping was left up to me. I still gave a tip afterward both times because the service deserved it.
On both trips, we had Peter as our captain, and he was great to talk to—friendly, personable, and shared interesting tidbits about the area. On June 29, it took a bit longer (about 10 minutes) for the boat to arrive, but it was still faster than we expected, especially compared to another stop where people were waiting around 20 minutes just to board. The second ride was busier, with nine people total on board including Captain Peter, but it was still a smooth and enjoyable trip.
Based on both visits, I’d choose a water taxi over Uber or rental bikes any day when it’s an option. I really appreciate this service!
My star ranking system:
1: Bad / Don't go there
2: Could be better
3: Average
4: Above average but not the best
5: A true top notch place"
