Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo is a must see. This was my second attempt and after 2 hours in line to catch Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Seeing Sound, Hearing Time exhibit back in March. Known as a composer and artist, his work here was mezmorizing, if sound can be visualized, it would be this exhibit. #坂本龍一 #mot #tokyo #ryuichisakamoto #solotravel

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Guangdong Museum of Art for its free entry, diverse collections featuring both Chinese and international artists, and impressive modern architecture. However, some find weekends can be noisy due to families, and foreign visitors may need to navigate a less obvious ticket collection point. Reddit

"Free entry, but for the foreigners they need to go and collect the ticket at the side entrance around the corner (not very obvious).

There was a special exhibition on the French artists Bernar Venet - I don't know if it was intentional - as a humorous piece to the museum - but his modern art was pretentious rubbish - taking the pee as we would say in Ireland - still he is French so I guess he can get away with it - but call a spade a spade, black canvas', right angles and squiggles is not "art" - whatever way you want to dress it up. Still though it was enjoyable and we had a good chuckle.

Zhang Peili - from China, had some audio visual work that was very good, sensual and thought provoking, and with a little humour too.

Hsiao Chin, another Chinese artist, was impressive with his abstract art - much more easier on the eye than Venet and easy to understand. More depth to it for sure.

The photography section was particularly enjoyable - highlighting the skills of the photographers but also many amazing scenes from China and of Chinese people.

Other than that I liked the section on traditional Chinese art, and also Xu Bei Hong's drawing of the countryside.
To add, the views from the museum, of the city outside, is quite decent - closed off on the day as it was wet - but nice to see the boats slowly going up and down the river with the skyscrapers in the background

Overall there is a lot of art to see here, some great, some not so great, but all of it very interesting, and we spent a good few hours here - well worth a look. Enjoyable and thoroughly recommended"

"great arts! but there's no discipline at all, kids running around and making so much noise. no security guard is trying to control it. they ruined all the nice arts vibes here. disappointed."

Giami Lee

"Free entrance, 3 floors and plenty of art galleries. Cannot access here by train, can either by bus or taxi. Probably wanna avoid weekends as there will be a lot of parents with their children running around and shouting."
