Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Nyethang Drolma Lhakhang for its profound peace and spiritual significance, particularly its dedication to Tara and historical ties to Master Atisha and the Dalai Lama. The serene atmosphere and the opportunity to witness Buddhist practices are highlights, though photography restrictions inside the main temple are noted.

"Dedicated to Tara – Future Female Buddha
A group of 14 of us travelling from Shighatse to Lhasa visited the Nietang Zhuomalakang Temple, also called Nye Thang Drolma Lhakhang monastery on the afternoon of 8th June 2018. Our guide told us that this monastery is dedicated to Tara – the future female Buddha. Dalai Lama too had used part of this building as his residence when he came here for worship. This monastery had been built by a monk called Atisha who came here from India to teach Buddhism.
As we entered the courtyard, I was fascinated by the symmetrically placed windows on the second floor, which had been occupied by Dalai Lama during his visits here. His bed, library, meditation rooms and other personal effects as well as a room for visiting dignitaries can be viewed by the visitors. No photographs were permitted within this building.
The temple itself has many statues of the female Bodhisattva, Tara in Tibetan colours of green, red, white and blue. The statue of Sakyamuni Buddha is prominently placed within. Though photos were not permitted within the temple, after pleading with the monks in sign language, I was permitted to take the few photos that are posted with this review."
