What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Jiaochangwei Beach offers a unique visual appeal with its colorful themed accommodations and warm waters, especially in September. However, dining experiences can be inconsistent, with many restaurants serving similar dishes, and visitors should be cautious of rocks along the shore.
"empty hostels and restaurants. It looks like an empty city (gohst city). Very disappointing."
Gabriela Sofia
"Not sure what I was expecting. I am pretty sure most restaurants here are garbage after eating in 5 of them. They have similar menus, and all foods tasted like they have been in the fridge for too long. Stores every 10 meters that sells "hand made fruit icecream/yoghurt" and some other bs, which have the same menu and the foods look exactly the same, presumably came from the same factory. The beach itself is quite small and half wet, and a lot of dirty boats are parked just near where people are swimming. It isnt as crowded as the dameisha beach tho, and it is cleaner."

"can ride speed boat floating boat but the beach have lot of big rock need to be careful when walking a long the beach"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
When it comes to dining, families might find the similar menus at restaurants a bit limiting if picky eaters are involved. It might be wise to pack some familiar snacks or research cafes that offer a wider variety. The colorful themed inns also provide a visually stimulating environment that children often enjoy exploring from the outside.
💰 Budget Travelers
Be mindful of the dining situation; while there are many eateries, some reviews suggest that the value for money can be questionable due to similar menus and potentially inconsistent quality. Exploring local markets or packing some of your own snacks can help manage food expenses. Opting for public transport over taxis will also significantly reduce travel costs.
📸 Photography Enthusiasts
To get the best shots, aim for weekdays and early mornings to avoid crowds and harsh midday light. The golden hours before sunset and after sunrise will offer the most flattering light. While the beach offers visual interest, be aware of the rocks and parked boats, which might need to be creatively framed out of your shots.

Exploring the Themed Accommodations
These themed stays contribute significantly to the beach's charm and offer a different experience compared to standard hotels. They create a playful and memorable atmosphere, attracting visitors looking for something beyond the ordinary. While the primary purpose is lodging, their visual appeal has made them a highlight for many who visit, even if they aren't staying overnight. Exploring these unique buildings is an activity in itself, adding a layer of quirky discovery to a beach visit.
Dining Experiences: A Mixed Bag
This uniformity can lead to a somewhat disappointing culinary experience for those expecting diverse and innovative dishes. While you can certainly find seafood, the overall quality and originality can be hit-or-miss. Some travelers recommend doing a bit of research or trying a few different places to find hidden gems. Despite these criticisms, the sheer number of dining establishments means you're unlikely to go hungry, and for those seeking a casual beachside meal, the options are plentiful, even if they lack distinctiveness.
Water Activities and Beach Conditions
However, it's important to be aware of the beach's physical conditions. Reviews mention that the beach can have large rocks, requiring caution when walking along the shore. Additionally, the presence of parked boats near swimming areas can sometimes detract from the pristine beach experience. While it's not as crowded as some other Shenzhen beaches, it's still a popular spot, so managing expectations regarding crowds and beach cleanliness is advisable.
