Minca, Northern Colombia
I just spent 7 days in Minca, right up at the top of Colombia. It's super close to Cartegena, up in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range. Probably the most serene place I've ever been and genuinely the most jaw-dropping sunsets every night. I think Minca is the…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Minca is praised for its stunning natural beauty, refreshing waterfalls, and immersive coffee farm experiences. Visitors love the laid-back mountain atmosphere and the abundance of eco-lodges offering a peaceful escape. However, some guests have reported issues with communication and service consistency at certain accommodations.
"I had a great stay at this hostel! The beds are big and very comfortable. The location is very nice and central so all restaurants and places to book tours are nearby. The cozy outdoor area with seats and hammocks create a great place to chill for a bit or get a drink at their bar. The host Ingrid was amazing aswell! She will help with anything you need and is the life of the party!"

"Central Minca is a fantastic hostel nestled in the heart of Minca, offering easy access to all the rivers and waterfalls in the area. The location couldn't be better for exploring the natural beauty of the region. The hostel's bar serves up some truly spectacular cocktails, perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure. The rooms with double beds are ideal for female travelers, providing comfort and security. Overall, Central Minca is a top choice for those seeking an unforgettable stay en Minca."

"The Location of the Hostel is great. They have a nice and cozy outdoor area, the Dorms are good. Cozy Beds and big Lockers in the Room.
However, they promised us that we can switch to a Room with a Double Bed for the Rest of our stay.
The next Morning when we asked when we could switch Rooms they told us that there was a misunderstanding and that they gave all three available Beds away.
In the afternoon the Toilet in our Room started leaking water and the smell was unbearable. Later a Truck came and they took out the water but we couldn’t use the bathroom at all anymore so we had to shower in another room. Wich of course is not their fault, that can happen, I understand that.
They told us that for all the inconvenience we would get free coffee and juice the next morning.
When we came to the kitchen the next Morning and asked for coffee they told us that it would cost 10k pesos and no one knew about what the other woman promised us the day before.
Communication between the Staff is terrible.
There is so much Staff present, 6 People sometimes, two of them are really working and the Rest ist just chilling on their Phones or smoking."

Yes, you can drive to Minca, but be aware that the roads leading up to and within Minca can be challenging, especially after rain. Many accommodations offer parking, but it's advisable to check with them beforehand. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for some routes.
For many eco-lodges and retreats nestled deeper in the jungle, moto-taxis are the primary mode of transport. Some places may offer their own shuttle services, so it's best to inquire directly with your accommodation.
While there are no direct public buses from major cities like Bogotá, you can catch local 'busetas' or shared taxis from Santa Marta's main bus terminal or market area. These are frequent and affordable.
