T Ū P U N A Ancestors Visited Avana Harbour today, place where our ancestors departed on their journey to Aotearoa, NZ. The Hawaiki Nui voyage, seven pillars still sit out in the harbour representing the seven waka. For our babies they were able to connect to their Te Arawa, Tainui and Mataatua waka. Son (Rawera) was like “Mummy please make sure you send this to Koka Jody.” #whakapapa #genolo...

The site offers a profound connection to Polynesian heritage, with many finding it a place for quiet reflection and a powerful reminder of their ancestors' journeys. "Beautiful landscapes, with history.I share some video collage from the harbor and surroundings. Are photos on photos, not cellphone, very sorry.
More in Trader Jacks, Punanga Nui Market, Avarua Cook Islands Christian Church and Muri Beach."

"Had a very emotional experience when I arrived at the harbour and I will never forget it, the moment you realize (well I did) that your ancestors left that very spot to come to aotearoa and they would never return or see the Rarotonga people again was a bitter sweet feeling. Bitter that they left that beautiful place and very caring and loving people, sweet in the realization that they were on their journey of finding this land aotearoa. I will return with my family to have this experience aswell."
