What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are captivated by the stunning turquoise color of the Rio Celeste Waterfall and the unique river confluence. The hike is generally enjoyable, though trail conditions and potential closures, especially to the waterfall's base, can be a drawback. The mandatory online ticketing system is a frequent point of frustration for many.
"As of this review: the final section to the base of Rio Celeste waterfall is closed off due to a landslide. However, you can still get a proper view of the falls! It took me 20 mins to reach the viewpoint (where the rest of the steps down are closed off) from the start of the trail. There is a steep section in the middle of the trail. Recommend to buy your tickets beforehand and be punctual about your arrival as that is enforced at the entrance. Secured parking lots available (cash needed - 2500 colones or 5 USD). On the same entry for Rio Celeste, you can continue further on the trail to see a river confluence. There are some street vendors selling delicious fruits and juices at the parking lots (cash). For meals, you're better off driving just a couple of minutes to Restaurant Tapirus than the cafe at the parking lot. Also, be sure to navigate to this GPS location because if you put just "Rio Celeste", it will take you to another location in the area."

"Very clean and modern visitor centre with good toilet facilities. They check ID at the entrance, and showing a passport photo on your phone is accepted. No plastic bottles, food or disposable items are allowed inside to protect the park. Cafés and shops are located outside across the street. The lower waterfall platform was closed due to unsafe trail conditions. Swings and drones are prohibited. The turquoise colour of Río Celeste is stunning and comes from a natural optical effect where two rivers meet. Overall, a beautiful place but expect rules and possible trail closures depending on weather."

"Amazing hike and views! Good thing to note, you can’t enter later than 2pm as the park closes. There is a $20 fee to enter and about a 30 minute walk to the waterfall. We did the additional hike to the beginning, where the minerals change the color of the river. In total the hike was about 90 minutes and definitely worth it! The trail was very easy to follow, though there were pretty steep steps at the end of the trail. 4 stars because due to a recent landslide, we could not walk all the way down to the waterfall as you can see in the photo."
