What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Montezuma is praised for its unique, bohemian charm and stunning natural beauty, particularly its dramatic rocky beaches and vibrant sunrises. Visitors love the laid-back atmosphere, abundant wildlife, and delicious local food. However, some find the beaches less ideal for swimming due to rocks and occasional dirtiness, and the town can feel very tourist-centric.
"Strong waves, sharp and smooth rocks make up the “sand” on most if not all of this beach, but it’s a glorious hangout with great ocean view bars, shops, and restaurants neighboring the playa."
Lindsey Yadon
"Montezuma felt like what I expected Costa Rica to feel like. It is a small beach town built around the beach and tourists. Being on the eastern side of the peninsula it is worth it to get up early and catch the sunrise. Take a walk along the beach and enjoy the various coves. Look up in the trees and you might see some monkeys climbing around."
Barry Belford
"Small bay in the hearth of Montezuma. It has easy access from the adjacent square and many restaurants all around. I wouldn’t suggest it for a beach day since it’s a bit small and super hot compared to Playa Grande but it definitely worths a visit maybe at sunrise or sunset. It has some small boats and tours starting from there. You can see iguanas on the trees"
