"Beautiful synagogue with incredible history. The guy there was very nice and informative."
Avi Friedman
"Beautiful authentic ancient synagogue. Unfortunately the guide who is a member of the local community is not treating it as one should. He doesn't wear a head covering, the Torah scroll was standing on the edge of the open arch for no reason, because it is not needed for reading as he assured me that the community consists of "non-believers" like him and "half-jews" from the wrong side.
In every community I have been so far even the non Jewish employees put on a head covering when they enter the synagogue, out of politeness and respect for the holy sites of others.
I was allowed to darwen Mincha there - yeshar koach and lot of blessings for this, Mr Albert! - when a woman came next to me and read a kaddish from one of the liberal prayer books that lay on the bima.
The place itself is really impressive, just that it is handled in such a manner is really disturbing."
Igor Prujanski
"What a beautiful synagogue! not so easy to find but well worth the effort. Originally Ashkenazi but today used by the 100 strong local Jewish community"
