"As part of Lenuci’s Horseshoe, this park was named in honor of Josip Juraj Strossmayer, a Croatian Roman Catholic bishop, politician, and patron of the arts. He was a strong advocate for Slavic cultural and educational autonomy and played a key role in the founding of both the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the University of Zagreb. At the center of the park stands a statue of Strossmayer, created by renowned sculptor Ivan Meštrović. On the northern side of the park is the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, housed in a Neo-Renaissance building constructed in 1880. During Advent in Zagreb, the park is beautifully lit and decorated, hosting festive performances and holiday markets."
