As someone who watches true crime cases this was such a different experience- I knew of most of the cases but yet it left an unsettling feeling while walking- the owner was so kind to us and very respectful with the way he approached this… #florence #thingstodoflorence #serialkillermuseum #serialkillermuseumflorence #truecrime

A museum dedicated to medieval torture methods opens in Chicago

I went there a little while ago actually. It’s pretty neat but overpriced IMO. The set-up of all the devices and atmosphere is really elaborate, they definitely put a lot of work and thought into it, so it doesn’t feel like a rip-off. However, it does feel like more of a…

Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Tortureum Museum a small but impactful experience, particularly for history enthusiasts. The interactive tablets are highly praised for providing detailed, multilingual context to the historical torture devices. While the intentionally dim lighting enhances the macabre atmosphere, some find it too dark to see clearly. The museum's emotional resonance, amplified by a powerful final video, leaves a lasting impression.

"Definitely recommended - especially for history lovers or else those who perhaps are interested to get to know a bit about the dark side of mankind. They gave us tablets which explained each piece thoroughly - which definitely made our experience much better. Also, this was available in 5 or 6 languages. Tickets are fairly cheap at around €6 each (there are good deals for families and groups) - so definitely recommend giving it a go if you're anywhere around Zagreb's upper town 😀"

"We had such a good experience at the museum. It was really interesting to see all the collection, and thanks to the interactive tablets provided - we could understand better how, when and why each piece was used. It's a vivid reminder of the dark history of mankind - the sad but true (ongoing) history. Definitely recommend visiting whilst in Zagreb!"

"I loved this odd place. It is very small and is too dark. I understand the need for darkness to affect the mood required, but it's too dark to see what you're looking at adequately and to see where you're going EXACTLY. There is a short, silent video at the end. I recognized many images from the "Faces of Death" videos of my youth. It's nothing gruesome but conveys the terror we as humans are capable of inflicting on others (and filming it). I left with tears in my eyes. Bravo to the creators for coming up with this idea that hits you right in the gut IF you watch the video. Most people pass it by. Don't."
