What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
ChocoMuseo Punta Cana offers a tourist-focused experience with engaging demonstrations of cigar rolling, rum tasting, and chocolate making. While many appreciate the friendly staff and the opportunity to sample local products, visitors should be aware that it's primarily a shopping venue with high prices. Managing expectations regarding the depth of educational content and confirming return shuttle times are key to a positive visit.
"It’s a tourist trap ! The only thing cool about it, was how they do the cigars (cigar demo). And since I am not a cigar expert I would advise to read the other reviews regarding their cigar quality!? Be careful as well with the ride back to the hotel, (pharaoh)they lie about their pick up time and we got stuck for an extra 2 hours comparing to what they promised!
I would advise the owner not to park his Porsche car in the front of the building and charge the same prices of his products as if costumers were buying it in the US. I can get the same stuff delivered to my door step in Chicago same price or a bit cheaper!"

"Fun little tour while we were on vacation. Cigars, jewelry, rum, coffee and, chocolate. Staff was fun and helpful."

"This excursion was free & included with our Apple vacation so we went. The bus out there was very small but we had a bigger bus on the way back. It lasted about a half day with 2 of those hours (approximately 4 hours total) being used for traveling. We thought it was okay for being free but were left a bit disappointed because we thought we’d get to see everything (such as: coffee, rum, & chocolate) being made but we only saw some cigars being rolled. Everyone was very nice but the tour of each building was extremely quick & it’s very obvious they want you to buy a lot because they walk you right to the gift shop. The staff was friendly but we found ourselves sitting around waiting for our bus to come get us."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Be aware that prices for souvenirs can be high, so set a budget beforehand. The cigar rolling demonstration might also be interesting for older children who appreciate crafts. Ensure you have clear arrangements for your return transport to avoid long waits that could make the experience tiresome for younger ones.

🥂 Couples & Adults

Understanding the ChocoMuseo Experience
Many visitors find the staff to be friendly and helpful, particularly during the tasting sessions. However, some reviews point out that the 'educational' aspect is minimal, and the primary focus is on sales. If you approach ChocoMuseo with the expectation of a shopping experience that includes a few interesting demos, rather than an in-depth cultural or historical tour, you're likely to enjoy it more.
Be prepared for the possibility of high prices on souvenirs, cigars, and rum. While the quality of some items is good, you can often find similar products at lower prices elsewhere. The convenience of the shuttle service and the concentrated offering of local goods are the main draws for many visitors.
Navigating Transportation and Timing
To mitigate this, it is crucial to confirm exact pick-up times with your tour operator or the venue itself. Don't rely solely on verbal agreements; get specific details. Some visitors suggest communicating directly with the shuttle driver or tour company representative to ensure clarity. The travel time itself can also be substantial, with some journeys taking up to two hours each way, making the entire excursion a half-day affair.
If you are not on a package tour, consider arranging transport via taxi, but always negotiate the fare upfront. Alternatively, for a similar shopping experience with shuttle services, the Don Lucas / Mundo Autentico shop is mentioned as a comparable option.
