What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
PUCMM is lauded for its welcoming atmosphere and supportive community, fostering both academic and personal growth. While it's a top institution in the Dominican Republic with high graduate employability, its international degree recognition is a point of consideration for some. Some reviews mention issues with staff attentiveness and course quality relative to the price.
"People need to know that, although this is the most prestigious university in the Dominican Republic, it is in no way comparable to a university in other western countries, certainly not the United States. A degree from PUCMM is not equivalent in any way to a university degree in the United States. At best, a licenciatura from PUCMM might be comparable to an Associate's degree from a U.S. community college. Similarly, a master's degree from PUCMM might begin to approximate a U.S. undergraduate degree.
Many of the faculty at PUCMM are personally irresponsible. The rate of absenteeism among professors is shockingly high. Most professors miss a good number of classes every semester. Professors change the dates of exams at the last minute, sometimes when students are assembled and waiting to take the final exam in the classroom itself! I know of situations in which thesis advisors have not read the theses they submitted for approval. In short, the university fails to meet the basic standards that are expected even at the level of secondary schools in other countries.
If you're a Dominican in the Dominican Republic, PUCMM is probably the best education you have access to other than an online university in a more advanced western country. But everyone else needs to know that a PUCMM degree is essentially worthless outside of the Dominican Republic. Let's hope this university, and the country as a whole, develops some self-discipline to raise itself to meet the reasonable standards found in other countries."

"I am incredibly grateful to be a part of this college! It truly stands out as one of the best, not only because of its excellent academic programs but also due to the amazing people who make it a welcoming and nurturing place to grow. From the professors to the staff and fellow students, everyone treats you with kindness, respect, and genuine care. The supportive environment fosters not only academic success but also personal growth. I feel valued and encouraged to be my best self every day. If you’re looking for a college where you’re more than just a number, this is the place!"

"I did a term abroad here in 1991 in college and absolutely loved it! Such a great college and fantastic memories. Me gusto mucho mi tiempo en la Republica Dominicana."

Academic Reputation and Degree Value
However, it's important for international visitors to understand the context of its academic standing. While highly regarded domestically, a degree from PUCMM may not hold the same international recognition as degrees from universities in Western countries. Some reviews suggest that a Licenciatura from PUCMM might be comparable to an Associate's degree in the U.S., and a Master's might approximate a U.S. undergraduate degree. Despite these international considerations, for those within the Dominican Republic, PUCMM is often considered the best educational option available, offering a solid foundation for career development. The university's commitment to academic excellence and community engagement is evident in its various programs and student initiatives.
