The water was really low but the whole forest reserve is beautiful. I would love to come back to do some trail running. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐ŸŒณโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, Tandayapa Valley, Quito, Ecuador, 8/7/25 Unreal full day of birding with the masterful Juan Carlos Crespo. Steph and I just had so much fun with him today, and Iโ€™ll share some great footage of us speaking together in a soon-to-be-created reel, but I wanted to drop a little bit from our day here before I turn in. Hard to really describe how green and ALIVE this...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve for its incredible biodiversity, particularly its abundant birdlife and the expertise of its guides. The lodge offers comfortable accommodations, excellent food, and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a highly recommended escape for nature lovers. Some note the bumpy journey from Quito and the potential for rain, but these are generally seen as minor aspects of an otherwise exceptional experience.

"Spent a beautiful night with the wonderful people at Bellavista. This lodge certainly caters to avid bird watchers, but is also a lovely place to visit even for those without birding experience or interest. You can join guided tours at your leisure or hike the many miles of trails through the dense cloud forest on your own which was easy to navigate. For the inexperienced birder, many birds approach the lodge, and I got to see many exotic species including toucans without a trained eye. On top of that, the staff was lovely, they were attentive and accommodating. It was a wonderful stay and I would recommend to anyone who would like to escape Quito for a night or two."

"I had a fabulous one night (2 day) stay at the BellaVista. Mateo was an awesome guide and extremely knowledgeable about the plant life of the area. He told us of these giant worms in the area and on the second day we found one! I was thrilled. The food was also excellent, Blanca in the restaurant was so sweet! I would recommend this to all my friends and family. They are very kind people who really care about the wildlife and nature. We also went to see the cock on the rock, that was a fun expedition and Iโ€™d recommend it too! Room was very clean and the stars at night out there are so so beautiful."

"We had an amazing stay here, we did the 2 day 1 night program which i think is the perfect length. Any shorter would have been rushed and too far to travel, but any longer may not work out particularly if you get rain, as there isnโ€™t much else to do other than bird watching hiking trails.
Be warned - the trip from Quito is long and bumpy, but very worthwhile.
Our guide was Gabriel, who was incredibly knowledgable, helpful, and nice to be around, he has such extensive understanding and appreciation for nature, it was great to have him.
The rooms are comfortable, itโ€™s cold at night but extra blankets are provided to keep you cosy.
The food is standard, nothing exceptional but does the job.
Overall we had an amazing time, and especially grateful for such a good guide in Gabriel."
