Reviews Summary

Amir Taz Palace is praised as a well-preserved Mamluk-era architectural gem, offering intricate details and a serene atmosphere. Visitors appreciate its historical significance and the unique glimpse into past lifestyles, though some note it's less visited and requires purchasing tickets separately.

"Prince Taz Palace is one of the most preserved Mamluk-era palaces that dates back to 1352 AD.

Prince Taz was one of the most influential figures in Mamluk Egypt during al-Nasir Muhammad bin Qalawun’s reign, and he built the palace to celebrate his marriage from Sultan Qalauwn’s daughter.

The palace was turned into girls’ school during Khedive Ismail’s time, then it was abandoned due to its poor conditions. And after tens if not hundreds of years of negligence, some of the Palace walls started to fall, then the decision to restore it and turn it to museum was issued back in 2002.

The palace is vast and has plenty of rooms and sections, but it truly is very nice and worth checking out."

"Prince Taz Palace is a historic architectural gem in Cairo, showcasing exquisite Ottoman and Mamluk influences. The palace is known for its intricately decorated interiors, featuring beautifully carved wood, ornate ceilings, and elegant courtyards that reflect the opulence of Cairo’s elite in past centuries.

Visitors can admire the fine craftsmanship in the stonework, woodwork, and decorative details, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle and artistic tastes of Egyptian nobility. The serene atmosphere of the palace, combined with its historical significance, makes it a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and cultural tourists.

Though less visited than major Cairo landmarks, Prince Taz Palace offers a unique and authentic experience, allowing guests to explore a lesser-known but remarkable part of the city’s heritage."

"One of the palaces that is not widely known in Cairo; presumably because it is located in a quite less-touristic neighborhood of Cairo.

Getting to the palace involves a road of 1 path only. You buy entrance tickets from another building that is a 100-200 meter walk.

The palace itself isn’t well taken care of. Expect to walk inside it and witness what it offers in less than 30 minutes.

There is a restroom.

I recommend visiting it if you have extra time, or happen to be nearby (e.g. Cairo Citadel or Alrifai Mosque)."
