Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Rannarootsi Museum for its incredibly personal and soulful atmosphere, making it feel like a warm invitation into a local home. The picturesque seaside location and the friendly, knowledgeable staff are consistently highlighted as major draws. While some find the exhibits a bit sparse, the overall experience is considered deeply rewarding and worth the modest entrance fee.

"The smaller the museum is, the more interesting it is. This small museum is huge in so many ways. It has a soul. First of all, it is located in a picturesque place; right next to the sea. This museum is about real people and their lifes; this is what made it so attractive for me. Inside there is a cozy homey atmosphere; I lost a track of time and felt like I was invited to someone's house. The staff are super friendly.
The entrance fee is 5EUR but you get way more than you expect.
There is a coffee machine and ice cream and of course some souveniers.
It is definitely worth visiting. Before you leave, walk around the museum because the views from the shore are amazing.
It is easy to get there from the centre: on foot ca 20 min but there is also a bus."

"This is a tiny museum dedicated to the history of swedish people in the surrounding territories. The museum consists of a two store house and a garden with several buildings - a storage and fish smoking hut - and a small piers with several fishing boats.

Inside the house, there are several rooms with expositions and touristic handmade souvenirs for sale.

With respect to expositions, the information presented is quite scarce, mostly text to read, similarly the items presented are very few and not particularly interesting. You can rush through the place within 20 minutes, nothing catches your attention much. The information is rather general, no stories about particular people living here, no catchy facts, no personal items, no examples of Swedish texts/speaking of that time, no interesting statistics, etc.

The garden is pretty simple, a couple of apple trees, some historic pictures on the walls (which were actually quite interesting because some of them depicted real people living in the area). The storage and smoking hut were rather empty and not interactive. Would be cool to try some fish. The boats looked also somewhat abandoned, some were filled with water.

My favourite part was practicing knitting knots n the garden, but the activity was quite short, I wish there were more of that.

I feel that this museum has a great potential but lacks interesting information and interactivity. For now I would not come back here again."

"This lovely Swedish Estonian Museum could either break your heart or fill your soul with joy. Either way you must visit in the afternoon and if you have time to help the wonderful Haapsalu ladies who have been working since April 2022 making camouflage nets for the Ukraine’s defence force! The day I arrived they were making their 170th camouflage net & they kindly allowed me to join in. Bless these amazing women and bless Ukraine 🙏💙💛
The museum itself is just lovely it tells of the history for the Swedish Estonians. In every wall all the way around one room is a tapestry of the history, it is excellent!
The lady that runs the museum is extremely friendly, helpful & knowledgeable."
