Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Cape Enniberg for its absolutely breathtaking, unparalleled views from Europe's northernmost point. The challenging hike is considered well worth the effort, offering a profound connection with nature and wildlife. However, the steepness and potential for difficult conditions require careful preparation.

"Breathtaking place like almost everywhere on Faroe Islands. It took me less than 2,5 hours to get here. First half is quite steep but well marked. Then, below the summit turn left and carry on the unmarked path. It's not difficult because it's almost flat and you have to follow pillars made of stones. It can be challenging during the snow or fog. Once you are at the Cape, you will be rewarded with amazing views from huge cliff. There was nothing just me, sea and birds. Lifetime experience.
Hike starts in village where is parking for 3 cars. It costs 200DKK to enter the hike, you can leave money in box (only cash)."

"Great hike, even if you don’t do the whole thing. We only hiked about an hour up (to about 350m of elevation)and found excellent views!! There is an honor box for the hiking fees of 200dkk per person."

Clynton Beukes

"Difficult climb but so beautiful and so worth it. The views!! It's an honor system with a suggested 200kr donation. It's pretty much straight uphill, about 850m, and then straight downhill. Even when there's mist or fog it inevitably clears if you wait a few minutes. Every few meters was a different view. If you're a weekend warrior like me, your thighs and your toes will hurt for days."

The Challenging Hike to the Edge

The journey to Cape Enniberg is not for the faint of heart. The hike begins with a steep, relentless climb from the village of Viðareiði. Reviewers consistently mention the demanding nature of this ascent, with loose rocks adding to the challenge. It's crucial to wear sturdy hiking boots with excellent grip to navigate this terrain safely. The effort, however, is undeniably rewarded. Reddit

After reaching the summit, the path continues, but it becomes less defined. Here, the key is to follow the cairns – stacks of stones deliberately placed to mark the way. These will guide you down and around the summit, leading you towards the dramatic cliff edge. While some sections might feel exposed, the cairns provide a clear route. Many visitors find having an offline map downloaded on their phone to be a helpful backup. Reddit

The descent can be tough on the knees, so take your time and be mindful of your footing. The entire round trip typically takes between 2 to 2.5 hours, not including time spent soaking in the views. The experience is often described as a 'lifetime experience' due to its raw, untamed beauty. Reddit

Understanding the Hiking Fees and Logistics

Accessing Cape Enniberg involves a mandatory hiking fee of 200 DKK per person. This fee is collected through an honor system, meaning you'll need to bring cash to deposit in the designated box at the trailhead. There are no card readers or electronic payment options available, so plan accordingly. Reddit

Parking at the trailhead in Viðareiði is extremely limited, usually accommodating only about three vehicles. This scarcity means that arriving early, especially during the summer months or peak tourist season, is highly recommended to secure a parking spot. If parking is full, you may need to consider alternative arrangements or be prepared for a longer walk from a nearby area. Reddit

It's important to note that this fee structure is specific to certain paid hikes in the Faroe Islands. While some locations might have turnstiles, Cape Enniberg relies on trust and community contribution. Respecting this system ensures the preservation of these incredible natural sites for future visitors. Reddit

Capturing the Majesty of Cape Enniberg

Cape Enniberg offers a photographer's dream, with its dramatic cliffs, vast ocean, and abundant birdlife. The sheer 754-meter drop to the sea creates a sense of awe-inspiring scale. To best capture this, a wide-angle lens is highly recommended to encompass the grandeur of the landscape. Consider visiting during the golden hours of early morning or late afternoon for the most dramatic lighting conditions. Reddit

Don't forget to look for opportunities to photograph the seabird colonies that inhabit the cliffs. A telephoto lens can be useful for capturing close-ups of puffins and other species. Including a person in your shots can effectively convey the immense size of the cliffs and the surrounding environment. Reddit

Be prepared for rapidly changing weather. Mist and fog are common, but they often dissipate quickly, revealing breathtaking views. Patience is key, and sometimes the most magical shots come from unexpected moments when the weather clears. Always check local regulations if you plan to use a drone, as there may be restrictions in place. Reddit
