Reviews Summary

Kulttuurisauna is lauded for its authentic, minimalist Finnish sauna experience, offering a serene escape with a bracing harbor plunge. Visitors praise the peaceful atmosphere and traditional ritual, though some note the price is on the higher side and recommend bringing your own essentials.

"Obviously, when you’re in Finland you want to go to a sauna. Skip the tourist stuff, skip the fancy drinks, views and prices. Go to an original Finnish sauna, the way a sauna should be: you undress, you shower, you sit down in the sauna room, you sweat, you pour some water on the hot coals, you sweat some more; you walk outside and you jump in the harbor to cool off. Repeat! They offer tea and cold water for drinks. And that’s all you want. The very best part of this: Friday is quiet day, no talking in the sauna! A total steal for €17 for the maximum time of an hour and a half. I recommend reservations, because there is a limited number of guests per timeslot. It’s the absolute best public sauna I’ve had in Finland! (No photos for obvious reasons)"

"A minimalist’s dream. The space feels super cozy. Smells of coffee throughout. Staff welcoming and friendly. Got really busy as the afternoon went on - get there early for more space. Women’s sauna was full of yapping throughout which was annoying but couldn’t ruin a wonderful experience. The löyly in the sauna packed a punch with the large ladle provided. Felt like a good communal experience with everyone taking turns filling up and creating löyly. Would be great if the women weren’t yapping away, but beyond that, 5 stars. The space + wood fired heater combo is too strong, and happily will look over that one tiny detail."

"New booking system indeed makes it easier to see how it will be crowded, with still enough capacity even for last minute booking on Sunday evening. Excellent and very relaxing sauna experience, my best sauna ever, highly recommended!!

As of June 2024) Seems that a new road/bridge for tram is under development, hope the access becomes a bit easier.

The Art of the Finnish Sauna

Kulttuurisauna embodies the essence of a traditional Finnish sauna, emphasizing stillness and the ritualistic cleansing of body and mind. The harbor plunge is an integral part of the Kulttuurisauna experience. The shock of the cold Baltic Sea water after the intense heat of the sauna is both exhilarating and deeply refreshing. It’s a practice deeply rooted in Finnish culture, believed to have numerous health benefits and to provide a powerful mental reset. The contrast between the extreme temperatures is what makes the entire ritual so potent.Instagram
