What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Vallisaari Island is lauded as a hidden gem offering a captivating blend of untouched nature and intriguing military history. Visitors praise its scenic beauty, diverse flora, and the unique experience of exploring former fortifications. While the ferry ride is essential, the island's tranquility and natural charm make it a highly recommended destination for a peaceful escape.
"I happened to attend the Helsinki Biennial on Vallisaari island. The exhibition was nice, although some installations were, to put it mildly, not very appropriate – such as the large colorful plastic excrescence on trees. However, the islands (including Kuninkansaari island) were, above all expectations, impressive natural monuments! Dense forest on the granite hills, which embrace old artifacts, like military and civil buildings left from XX century. Water- and songbirds, small mammals like martens are freely moving around. On the sandy beach at Kuninkansaari during warm days is possible even to dip yourself into water. Though excellent infrastructure developed as well - multiple comfortable coffees and even nice giftshop. Definitely worth of visiting."

"Nice place to spend the day. You can enjoy Vallisaari untouched nature, there are lots of different herbs growing there. You can have a picnic and watch ferries going nearby or enjoy the view of Suomenlinna. There is a scenic point to view island from above. You can find different cafes there on the way. This summer you can enjoy Helsinki Biennale art event which held from the 12th of June till 26th of September 2021 and it is free of charge. Art objects are located in different places: in the powder cellar, in the residential buildings and on the way. Hurry up to enjoy Vallisaari 😀"
