What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Imatra Spa offers a fun water park experience, particularly for families, with unique features like simulated rain. However, some guests find the rooms dated and lacking air conditioning, and the a la carte dining can be disappointing and overpriced. Maintenance in some spa areas could also be improved.
"Check-in staff was polite, but why do we have to fill in a mile long personal info questionnaire by hand in 2025? It's just mind boggling to watch the line go no-where with people filling these.
The entrance area was pretty neat looking, with tiny shops and a game room behind that. Our room was in 3rd floor and stepping in was an instant time travel to the 80s and 90s. The room looked dated, with noticeable wear on the walls and especially in the bathroom floor. The air in the room was stale, but at least we could open a small window and the room also had blackout curtains. The beds were the absolutely worst part of the room. Extra hard and uncomfortable, plus the sheet was so tiny that it came off after rolling on the horrible bed trying to get some sleep. The bed cover under the sheet was something I really didn't want to see, with all the stains you could imagine.
The spa itself was fine, although the first thing I noticed after stepping into the dressing room was badly working locker system, that took like 5 tries to lock because the reader didn't want to read my wrist tag. The second annoyance was that all the soap dispensers I tried in the showers were empty.
There were plenty of various pools and we had fun swimming in them, the water temperature was fine and the thing entertained adults for couple of hours. There was also a pretty long water slide, but its signalling system was constantly misbehaving and people just stood there minutes waiting even when the previous person had long since cleared the slide. The pool section also showed its age in a lot places, with stuff looking worn down, rusty or broken. The absolutely worst part was the floor outside the pools, which was insanely slippery - something I had never encountered in spas before.
One amusing point was that they made us pay 7€ for a bathrobe and slippers, with some story about saving the environment. Sure, tell people not to waste, but having an extra fee for something that's standard to spas was just absurd, I was surprised we got a free towel.
The hotel had couple of restaurants, we tried the a la carte one for dinner and buffet for breakfast. The dinner was disappointing, with mediocre food that took forever to arrive and was grossly over priced for the whole experience.
The breakfast buffet again was pretty decent. Not full of local delicacies, but a well stocked hotel breakfast, which was actually better than the "fine" dining the night before.
All in all, the whole place is in need of a serious overhaul and one night was more than enough for us.
A shame, as the area itself was really pretty with nature paths and rental bikes to ride them."

"No AC in the rooms. Very hot during the summer.
Breakfast was okay in terms of spread , but most of the food items were low quality and ultra-processed. Very few fresh items available.
The spa was mostly nice (compared to other spas in Finland), but some areas do need urgent maintenance (e.g the steam saunas, which didn’t work properly). Please note that 90% of the quests are families with small children at least during summer holidays.
The area is really nice and the resort is located very close to the coast and beaches of Saimaa."

"Very mixed feeling. The room was large but no air conditioning. The spa is very nice but breakfast is one of the worst I have seen. The surrounding area is very nice but was missing i.e. how to reach the wonderful clear water beach."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Practical tips for families include being prepared for potentially slippery floors around the pools and ensuring children have appropriate swimwear. While rooms might be dated, the entertainment value of the spa itself often makes up for it. Consider booking a family room or suite for more space.
💰 Budget Travelers
Consider visiting during off-peak times (weekdays, outside of school holidays) when prices might be lower and crowds thinner. While the resort itself has dining, exploring local eateries in Imatra could offer more budget-friendly meal options.
🧘♀️ Relaxation Seekers
Be mindful of the room conditions if you're seeking ultimate comfort; some guests have noted dated decor and a lack of air conditioning. However, the spa facilities themselves are the main attraction for relaxation. Consider booking a spa treatment if available to enhance your unwinding experience.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Imatra Spa Water Park Experience
However, visitors should be aware that some areas of the spa show their age. Wear and tear are noticeable, and certain facilities, like the steam saunas, might not be in perfect working order. The signaling system for the water slide has also been reported to malfunction, leading to delays. Despite these points, the water park is frequently praised as a highlight, especially for families looking for a fun and engaging day out.
Accommodation and Room Comforts
The beds have also been a point of contention, with descriptions ranging from 'extra hard' and 'uncomfortable' to sheets that are too small. While blackout curtains are a plus, the overall condition and comfort of the rooms might not meet everyone's expectations. It's advisable to inquire about room renovations or specific room types if comfort is a top priority.
Dining at Imatra Spa
However, the a la carte restaurant has received more criticism. Some guests have found the food to be mediocre, dry, and significantly overpriced for the quality and overall experience. While the resort does have a shop with various items, and potentially a bar area, the bar's availability might depend on the number of guests. For those seeking a more refined culinary experience, exploring dining options outside the resort might be a consideration.
