What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ukonniemi Outdoor Area is praised for its versatility as a sports venue, particularly its early-opening cross-country ski tracks and well-equipped biathlon facilities. Visitors appreciate the good lighting for night activities and the warmer arena environment in winter. However, some note the lack of dedicated seating for spectators at events and recommend using training skis due to variable snow quality.
"This place is suitable for organising football tournaments even with full size field. Enough space for watching the game for limited number of people, e.g. couple of hundred people can easily fit. But there are not sitting places. Also, in this arena every now and then some exhibitions are organised. In winter the temperature inside is at least 5 degrees higher than outside. And there are warm dressing rooms."

"It is a place for doing a number of sports: baseball as it has a baseball stadium, biathlon as there is a shooting range here, roller skiing in summer and X-country skiing in winter, etc. The most important, however, is that it is one of the first in Southern and Central Finland to open a cross-country ski track. In 2019, 5km long ski track made of snow preserved from the previous winter was opened on October 19-20. Due to warm weather, only 3km made to the next weekend though. The snow itself is pretty dirty and overall of bad quality, so using training pair of skis is highly recommended. Skiing on the track for an adult costs 10 euro a day."
