The Cycling Challenge: Mont Ventoux

Mont Ventoux is synonymous with cycling, often featuring in the Tour de France and considered one of cycling's ultimate challenges. The three main ascents—Bédoin, Malaucène, and Sault—each offer a unique experience. The Bédoin route is the most famous and arguably the toughest, with a relentless gradient and a long, exposed final section. Malaucène provides a slightly less brutal climb, while Sault offers a more gradual, scenic approach through forests and lavender fields (in season). Reddit

Many cyclists aim to complete the 'Cinglés du Mont Ventoux' challenge, which involves summiting the mountain three times in a single day via all three routes. This is an extreme feat requiring significant endurance and preparation. For those not aiming for such an epic challenge, simply conquering one ascent is a major accomplishment. Remember that the summit is often windy and significantly colder than the base, so be prepared for all conditions. Reddit

Key cycling tips include starting early to avoid heat and traffic, carrying plenty of water and high-energy snacks, and ensuring your bike is in excellent condition. The 'Mont Ventoux cycling' and 'cycling up Ventoux' keywords highlight the immense popularity of this activity. Even if you're not a seasoned cyclist, witnessing the determination of those tackling the climb is inspiring. Reddit
