"Baroque facade of the Notre-Dame de Nevers chapel. The first stone was laid in 1623. The future Queen of Poland, Louise-Marie de Gonzague, commissioned this unique building in this region."

"Since we weren't able to visit it, it was its stunning Baroque façade that caught our eye. This style, unique in the Nivernais region, is rare in France.
The chapel was part of the Visitation Monastery, whose buildings were constructed from 1623 to 1634.
It was Duchess Louise-Marie de Gonzague, the future Queen of Poland, who laid the foundation stone.
Only this chapel remains of the monastery."

"The Sainte-Marie Chapel, located on Rue Saint Martin, is the former church of the Visitation Convent. It was built in the 17th century. It is distinguished by its Baroque-style façade, unique in Nivernais and rare in France. It is the only vestige of the Visitation Convent, a religious order founded in 1610 by Saint François de Sales and Saint Jeanne de Chantal. The presence of these nuns was highly criticized. Indeed, they bought houses to expand and thus depopulated the street. The Saint Martin Abbey then agreed to give part of its land to the nuns who were then able to build the convent and the chapel. Marie de Gonzague laid the first stone of the chapel in 1639 and the monument was completed in 1643."
