‘Lotti’ A World War One photo postcard I picked up at a military fair in France a few weeks ago. The photograph was taken in the late 1910s or early 1920s at Fort de la Pompelle and shows an abandoned German Tank - Sturmpanzerwagen ‘A7V’. This is No. 527, ‘Lotti’ which was knocked out on the 1st June 1918. Initially being ditched in trench, ‘Lotti’ would be hit by French Artillery before the crew ...

A World War One trench mortar which is on display in the museum at Fort de la Pompelle, Reims, France. This appears to be the 17cm mittlerer Minenwerfer, which was used extensively throughout the First World War. It was capable of firing 20 rounds per minute to a maximum distance of 1,600 metres. 📸 : @battlefield_builds

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Fort de la Pompelle Museum for its extensive WWI artifacts, particularly the unparalleled collection of German helmets, and the informative displays detailing soldier life. While the multilingual exhibits are appreciated, some find that deeper explanations are only in French. The exterior of the fort is also noted as being interesting, even when the museum is closed.

"You can come visit even if the museum is closed. You will obviously not have access inside to see the story, but you can still walk all around the fort. The information and the artifacts are top notch. It is recommended to have around 1 hour to fully complete it and read everything. Parking is avaible for free."

Elliot Denis

"We entered with a friendly welcome from the staff. After that there is a lot of reading about the history (predominantly world war 1), mixed with a lot of displays of helmets, weaponry, and accessories of soldiers during that time. Definitely a recommendation if you are interested in armies. The fort on itself was not too interesting."

Mitchell

"We only visited outside exposition and not the museum itself because we came outside of museum opening hours. Very interesting for the kids because they see what the fort is, see the large cannons, see flags of the war participants.

The part of the exhibition is the monument devoted to the Russian expedition corps sent to French allies to support the defence."
