What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Plage de Passable boasts a stunning location with incredibly clear turquoise waters and breathtaking views of the Bay of Villefranche. However, visitors often find the service at the private beach club to be slow and the prices for sunbeds exorbitant. The rocky nature of the beach also requires appropriate footwear for comfort.
"Gorgeous location, terrible service. We arrived midday on the off chance there would be beds available. We were informed only the double beds at the back were available for £170 for half the day which we reluctantly agreed to. We then witnessed multiple people be offered the single sunbeds at £55 throughout the afternoon we appeared to not have booked either. There appeared to only be 3 staff members working the beach and the service became the real disappointment of the day. We spent an hour trying to flag down a staff member to order drinks and some food. Eventually we ordered and went for a swim. When we came back our drinks still had not arrived and we were told we hadn’t ordered with the specific staff member that holds the only device you can order from. After ordering again, the food and drinks arrived quickly and were okay - nothing amazing for the price. It then took another hour to flag him down for a second drink. The location is 10/10, the most gorgeous clear water we have swam in and beautiful views. However the service, price and overall attitude of the staff really let it down. We paid considerably less at a different beach club for more food, drink and quality service."

"The restaurant at the Plage was excellent. Great lunch experience, Superb and delicious food, great beach vibe and good service. Charged Parking is available close by. Beach chairs are exorbitant at Eur 100 a person. The restaurant is directly at the beach and you can go into the water right after your meal which is excellent and convenient."

Navigating Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat's Coastline
For those who enjoy a more active exploration, the coastal trails are a major draw. A popular route connects Paloma Beach to Plage de Passable, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding landscape. This walk is highly recommended for its scenic beauty and the opportunity to discover hidden coves and vistas. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes, as the terrain can be uneven.
Parking is available but is a paid service and can fill up quickly. This makes arriving early or considering public transport a wise strategy, particularly during the busy summer months. The peninsula itself is dotted with luxurious villas and beautiful gardens, adding to the overall charm of the area.
The Plage de Passable Experience: Beach Club vs. Public Access
For budget-conscious travelers or those who prefer a more laid-back approach, the public section of Plage de Passable is a viable option. You can bring your own towel and find a spot on the pebbles to relax and swim. While the beach is rocky, which necessitates water shoes for comfort, the clear, turquoise water is undeniably beautiful and inviting. Visitors off-season often find this public area to be calm and enjoyable, with good sun exposure in the afternoon.
It's worth noting that service at the beach club has received mixed reviews, with some guests experiencing slow service when trying to order food or drinks. Despite potential service hiccups, the stunning location and the quality of the water remain consistent highlights for most visitors.
Best Times to Visit for Different Experiences
If a summer visit is unavoidable, aiming for weekdays rather than weekends can help mitigate the crowds. Arriving early in the morning, particularly before 10 AM, is crucial for securing a good spot on the beach and potentially better rates at the beach club. The afternoon sun is strong and enjoyable, making it a prime time for sunbathing, but this is also when the beach tends to be busiest.
Some visitors have noted that during high season, the beach can become quite noisy and crowded with a younger demographic, sometimes leading to disturbances. For a more peaceful experience, consider visiting during the late afternoon on a weekday, when the intensity of the sun might be less, and some of the day-trippers may have already departed.
