In Saint-Tropez there is a little 1500s chapel turned museum filled with classics by Matisse, Cross, Signac, Derain, Marquet etc from 1890-1950. With so many exquisite pointillism and works! Truly an incredible little museum you cannot miss. #travel #travelphotography #sainttropez #annonciade #matisse #painting #france #southoffrance #artists

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Annonciade Museum for its intimate atmosphere and impressive collection of modern art, particularly Fauvist and Pointillist works. The unique setting within a former chapel is frequently highlighted as a major draw, offering a charming backdrop for viewing masterpieces by artists like Matisse and Signac. While small, it's considered a must-visit for its artistic significance and prime portside location.

"Housed in a former 16th-century chapel just steps from the port, the museum feels intimate yet filled with artistic treasures that capture the spirit of the Riviera.

A small but incredible collection from the late 19th to mid-20th century and brings together works by painters who were drawn to Saint Tropez for its Mediterranean light. It includes vibrant examples of Pointillism, Fauvism, and the Nabis movement. Seeing paintings by Paul Signac, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Georges Braque, and Raoul Dufy in one place is already remarkable, but what impressed me most was discovering the early work of Francis Picabia.

His luminous Vue de la Citadelle de Saint Tropez offers a softer, almost nostalgic vision of the town, very different from the avant-garde style he later became known for.

Must see and is right at the Harbour in Saint Tropez"

"Unfortunately while I was visiting the ground floor was closed due to the preparation for the temporary exhibition. But a charming little collection of impressionist paintings on the second floor is very corresponding to the spirit of Saint Tropez city"

"This little gem of a museum is right on the sea-front. It looks over the port of St Tropez. Paintings by famous impressionists depict that same port. The scenery in the paintings contrasts massively with the port today. Brigitte Bardot made the town famous, but for sure she could not have expected that her beauty would attract such huge oversized yachts registered in tax free havens to come and squeeze into that little fishing port."
