What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Les Cuves de Sassenage for its stunning natural beauty, particularly the cave's unique formations and the dramatic waterfall. The guided tour is informative and the hike, though strenuous, is considered rewarding. Some find the cave passages tight and the hike challenging, suggesting preparation is key.
"This small cave is excellent and does not disappoint.
There are a few things you should be prepared for-
1. It is a strenuous walk up to the cave entrance. Bring water.
2.There are very tight spaces, be prepared to crouch and watch your head. I'm tall and had to use my hands on the ground a few times.
3. Don't wear a backpack if you can. Mine kept rubbing.
There is a toilet at the top and some refreshments."

"It looks great, but access is only with a guide. That information wasn’t posted at the mouth of the cave.
We came back!
This time we got there in time to follow a guide. The guide gave us sheets in English that were essentially her script. She did the tour in French and English just for our party.
The cave is narrow, low in spots, and wet. Wear good shoes. The caves are well worth the tour. The total tour takes about an hour.
It takes about 20 minutes to walk the 600 meter trail that rises about 100 meters. The footing is rocky with loose rocks. Near the kiosk just below the cave entrance there are small trails that access the creek which comes out of the cave. Each time we have been out we have seen people swimming or wading in the creek.
To get there take the A Tram to La Poya. At La Poya take the 20 bus to Place de la Libération. From the bus stop cross the street and follow a road toward the mountain. The road turns to the right, by a small church, through a small courtyard with a fountain. Just beyond the fountain is a narrow alley that takes you to the trailhead."
