What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Col de Joux Plane is celebrated for its challenging cycling routes and spectacular panoramic views, particularly of Mont Blanc. Visitors appreciate the scenic drive and hiking opportunities, though the steep gradients are a significant challenge for cyclists. Some find the summer heat intense.
"Col de Joux Plane is a prominent high mountain pass in the French Alps, located in the Haute-Savoie department near the Swiss border. It sits at an elevation of approximately 1,691 to 1,712 meters, linking the towns of Morzine and Samoëns via the narrow and fully paved D354 road. The pass is highly regarded among cyclists as one of the six major Alpine climbs in France, known for its challenging gradients with some ramps reaching up to 15%. From the Samoëns side, the climb is about 11.6 km long with an average gradient of 8.5% and up to 12.8% on the steepest stretches, while the Morzine side is shorter but still challenging at around 10.9 km with an average gradient of 6.5% and maximum slopes nearing 11%. The summit features a bar called Le Relais des Vallées and offers majestic panoramic views of Mont Blanc. It has been a repeated feature in the Tour de France and is admired for its combination of demanding climbs, scenic alpine forested routes, and cultural significance in the region. Due to its south-facing slope, the climb can be quite demanding in summer heat, making early starts advisable for cyclists."

"Beautiful area to hike, walk, bike do a picnic.
We walked the track of 1 hour 25 to the 'pointe d Angolon'. Can be done with kids of 6/7 years old although quite steep..... Do it slow but steady. You start at approx 1870 m high and you go up to 2006 m. We even took a picnic up there."

"Postcard views 🙂 Super hard to conquer by bike 🚲 from Samoens."
