What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Graacher Tor Museum a charming historical site, primarily for its location within the last remaining city gate of Bernkastel-Kues. The real draw is the adjacent, beautifully preserved old town with its colorful half-timbered houses, offering a picturesque experience. However, the museum's opening hours can be inconsistent, and some facilities like parking or bathrooms in nearby accommodations have received criticism.
"Normally I don't like crowded places, but Christmas is an exception. So the weekend before Christmas, my family decided to drive to two small towns, Cochem and Bernkastel Kues. Two small, pretty towns that are not too crowded, especially during a pandemic like this.
Due to Covid, Christmas markets across Germany have been canceled. Instead of organizing a Christmas market with countless wooden stalls like usual, Bernkastel will decorate the whole city and especially the old town area. Small Christmas stalls are scattered throughout the streets as well as along the banks of the Mosel River.
Since hotels and guesthouses in Germany are currently closed, we only went for a quick day trip and then returned - we will return to the Moselle valley next spring with countless small, pretty old towns like this to stay longer - at that time I will have a detailed review for everyone :)"

"The Graacher Gate Local History Museum is located in the only remaining city gate of Bernkastel-Kues.
Unfortunately, it is currently closed.
From here, you have direct access to the beautiful old town with its many wonderful and lovingly maintained half-timbered houses.
Right on the banks of the Moselle River, there is a large parking lot with the old train station."

"Bernkastel-Kues is a very pretty little town, the "Mark" is really very beautiful, very colorful and well-preserved houses, a total change of scenery."
