What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Aller Cycle Route offers a varied cycling experience, with some sections praised for their riverside charm and improved signage from Celle onwards. However, many visitors note inconsistent wayfinding and stretches that deviate from the river, often running along busy roads. Limited amenities and restroom facilities are also common concerns, making preparation essential.
"Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the so-called "Aller Cycle Path!" Although we were a group of 15 people following the signs, we barely saw the Aller River except when crossing it...! Almost no refreshment options, no restrooms, and the route ran along busy roads...!
Our approximately 50 km bike ride was therefore not a pleasant one!
In contrast to the tour, our bike hotel, the "Niedersachsenhof" in Verden, was excellent!"
Gerd Fahnster
"Verden/Aller is a charming little town with half-timbered houses, a beautifully landscaped pedestrian zone, and a variety of shops. A long stroll along the Aller Promenade and through the old fishing district on the Aller River is also very pleasant, as is the area around the old Verden Cathedral. The cathedral itself is, of course, also worth seeing from the inside. There is a weekly market at various locations three days a week."
Christiane Sch.
"The best part: swimming naked in the Aller before the rain shower. Wonderful. 3 stars for that.
Otherwise, poor signage to the spring and beyond. It feels better from Celle onward. In Celle, the implementation of the EU directive on public drinking water is also lacking. The disparate signage is simply stupid.
Without a navigation system, the route is sometimes unclear."
