What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally praise the unique natural beauty of Heligoland, particularly the dramatic cliffs and abundant birdlife, as well as the opportunity to see seals on Düne. The ferry journey is often described as scenic, though it can be rough. Some travelers have expressed frustration with ferry schedule discrepancies and a lack of communication regarding changes, impacting their island time.
"First time using this service from Cuxhaven terminal. We turned up on time but as the sea was very choppy and the boat was late arriving from Hamburg. So we arrived at Helgoland 45 minutes late. The sailing was very bumpy because of previous storm but the instructions from Captain were very clear and said we were to expect a bumpy ride. Apart from that the journey was very smooth. Plenty of space and clean. Staff were friendly. As we did not get any extra time on island for late arrival I give it a 4 instead of a 5."

"Amazing journey and super service from blond lady in premium class"

"On 14.07.2021, I bought a ticket on board as the internet connection of ticket service did not work. But the ticket was 15.07.2021. The returning time was 17:00. But they departured at 16:30, which might be the departuring time of that day, but they did not tell me. I missed the returning trip! Hopefully, there was a ship for another company to return to cuxhaven. I bought a VIP ticket and it cost about 150 euro. I wrote them an email, but I have not received any answer yet. So disapponting.
I expect an apologize as well as refund."

The Lummenfelsen cliffs with their seabird colonies offer incredible photographic opportunities. The unique red sandstone formations, the harbor, and the views from the Oberland are also highly photogenic.
Early morning and late afternoon often provide the best light for photography, with softer shadows and warmer tones. This is also when seabirds are most active on the cliffs.
